This is my portfolio of work for the Minor in Writing program at the University of Michigan. The works featured here include my Why I Write essay, a repurposing essay, and a remediation.

For the repurposing, we were tasked with taking a paper we had already written, and rewrite it for a new audience.I chose to look at an essay I wrote my freshman year that examined imagery and tone in Beyonce's music video for her song "Pretty Hurts". I was attracted to the topic as Beyonce is known for addressing social issues in her music. I wanted to move beyond the constraints of looking solely at the elements of the music video, and examine more closely the idea of the pressure women feel to maintain an unattainable standard of beauty. As a result, I repurposed that original essay as a research paper looking at how various industries have both contributed to and attempted to relieve the pressure that women feel.

The remediation project involved taking the repurposed essay and recreating that in a format other than prose. Taking my paper on beauty standards, I decided to created focus on how beauty standards have changed over time, and present this visually.
